FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jonathan Runcio: Loco Serenity
November 3 – December 17, 2006
Ratio 3, 903 Guerrero, San Francisco, CA 94110

Opening reception: November 3, 2006, 6-8pm.

Ratio 3 is pleased to present Loco Serenity, new work by Jonathan Runcio, on view from from November 3 to December 17, 2006.

Jonathan Runcio will debut new abstract paintings and an installation that explore both physical and mental space. Runcio prints onto pieces of flat acrylic, which he then folds. By bending the painting, Runcio reveals their flip side, allowing a new consideration of the paintings and the space they occupy. Arranged using a structured improvisation, the printed shapes suggest broken diagrams that hover playfully on the slick surfaces.

In the room installation, two-, three-, and four-dimensional planes collide, resulting in a sculpture that physically and aurally charges the gallery space.

Jonathan Runcio was born in 1977 in Montreal, Canada. He graduated with a BFA in painting from the California College of Arts & Crafts in 1999. He has exhibited at Allston Skirt, Boston (2003), 111 Minna, San Francisco (2004), and Ratio 3 (2004). In 2005 he founded Woodward Flats, producing print editions for artists such as Ara Peterson, Isaac Lin and Tauba Auerbach. Runcio currently lives and works in San Francisco. This is his second solo exhibition with Ratio 3.
