FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Takeshi Murata : Silver Equinox
January 13 - February 26, 2006
Ratio 3, 903 Guerrero, San Francisco, CA 94110
Opening reception: January 13, 2006, 6-8pm.
Ratio 3 is pleased to present Silver Equinox , new work by Takeshi Murata, on view from January 13 to February 26, 2006.
Takeshi Murata will debut a digital video that continues his exploration into representation and abstraction. Employing similar editing and manipulation that was used in his notorious video, Monster Movie (2005), Murata delves further into deconstructing pre-existing cinematic narratives. The ghostly images in Untitled (Silver) appear to slip in and out of real time, creating a haunting and ethereal experience. The video is set to a commissioned ambient and minimal soundtrack composed by the musician Robert Beatty and Ellen Mollé.
Takeshi Murata was born in 1974 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1997 with a B.F.A. in Film/Video/Animation. His work has been screened nationally in various film venues, including the Anthology Film Archive, New York and the New York Underground Film Festival. His work has been included in exhibitions at Deitch Projects, New York (2005), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco (2005), Willy Wonka Inc./Gallerie S.E., Oslo, Norway (2005), Peres Projects, Los Angeles/Berlin (2004), and Gavin Brown's Enterprise, New York (2004). In 2006 he will exhibit at Grimm|Rosenfeld, New York/Munich, gallery.sora, Tokyo, and Deitch Projects, New York. Murata currently lives and works in New York. This is his first solo exhibition.
